Braise Satan

In the Abertay game development courses there is a large interdisciplinary project in 3rd year; teams of 8 with members of each discipline collaborate to make a game over the course of the term.
The game I worked is called “Braise Satan”, it is a cooking game set in hell. The player is given a recipe and must collect, chop, and cook ingredients to satisfy the appetite of the devil, or he will eat YOU! There is also a combat element, with imps appearing and trying to steal your ingredients.
This was the first time I had used Unreal Engine 5 and worked in team for an extended period of time, so I learned a lot about how to collaborate.
In terms of programming, I wrote some C++ but primarily worked in Blueprints. Some things I was the primary contributor for were the cooking mechanics, the recipe system, and scoring.
Our team decided to take it further and participate in the 1-month DARE Academy program. We didn’t win DARE in the end, but we still got to go to EGX, and it was an exciting (albeit stressful) time.
On the personal side of thinks, I think this project was quite good for my confidence as a programmer. Previously I had struggled, feeling like because I couldn’t make a game solo then I must be inadequate but working on Braise Satan shifted my perspective to realise the tremendous value of working in a team.
